A-Fib: You Weren't Told
The Hidden Environmental Triggers Behind Atrial Fibrillation
Don't trust. Verify.
TL;DR
The alarming rise in atrial fibrillation (Afib) cases worldwide has gone largely unexplained by conventional medicine. This newsletter explores the hidden environmental triggers behind Afib that your cardiologist likely never mentioned:
- How UV light exposure directly affects your heart rhythm through complex autonomic pathways
- Why blocking natural light (with sunglasses, screens, and indoor living) disrupts your heart's electrical system
- The concerning correlation between COVID vaccines and Afib cases
- Dr. Jack Kruse's connection between Afib and EMF exposure
- Steve Kirsch's analysis of VAERS data showing 100% of reported vaccine-related Afib cases in the system's 30-year history occurred after COVID vaccination
- Why going beyond nutrition approaches like carnivore or keto is necessary for true heart health
- The importance of addressing your unique light environment, EMF exposure, and autonomic balance through personalized interventions verified by functional testing
- How to self-custody your heart health by going deeper down the rabbit hole than standard medical care allows
The astonishing rise in atrial fibrillation (AFib) cases worldwide has left the medical establishment struggling for answers. The British Heart Foundation recently reported a staggering 50% increase in AFib diagnoses over the past decade, with 1.5 million sufferers in the UK alone—approximately 1 in 45 people.
Yet when Dr. John Campbell pressed for more specific data on when this increase occurred—especially during pivotal years like 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022—the foundation offered no timeline. Campbell pointedly asked, "What data do they have for 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, and if they have that data, why is it not in the public domain?" His questions were met with silence.
It's time we pull back the curtain and examine what's really happening with your heart rhythm—and why conventional approaches might be missing the bigger picture. Let's dive in.
What's Really Driving Your Heart's Irregular Rhythm?
According to Dr. Jack Kruse, a neurosurgeon and health optimization pioneer, atrial fibrillation shares a surprising connection with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). In a groundbreaking LinkedIn post, Dr. Kruse declared: "Why are ALS and A-fib linked? Both diseases are caused by nnEMF."
ALS, often known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control and eventually paralysis. While conventional medicine treats ALS and AFib as completely unrelated conditions, Dr. Kruse identifies a common environmental trigger: non-native electromagnetic fields (nnEMF). Dr. Kruse explains the mechanism:
"The autonomic nervous system's key governor is the eye surface. We must remember, though, that the blood flow to the eye is under sympathetic control."
Sympathetic refers to the body's excitatory "fight or flight" responses, where parasympathetic denotes calming "rest and digest" responses. Kruse elaborates on the relationship between sympathetic response and the Retinal Pigment Epithelium (RPE) which is formed from a single layer of regular polygonal cells arranged at the outermost layer of the retina. Kruse goes on to explain:
"The sympathetic autonomic system connects to the RPE in the eye by the way the circulatory system links to the oculomotor nerve at the base of the orbit (eye), connecting to the first four thoracic white rami, which form the superior cervical ganglion."
English please, Uncle Jack, for us 80 IQ-ers in the back! Maybe this is where a diagram or two might help our understanding a bit.
Here is a detailed view of nerves of lateral orbit that highlights the ciliary ganglion immediately behind the globe of the eye:

This ganglion, according to Dr. Kruse, "controls cerebral blood flow by its ability to vasodilate or constrict based on autonomic tone.
Autonomic tone refers to the balance between your "rest and digest" (parasympathetic) and "fight or flight" (sympathetic) nervous systems. Think of it like a car with both an accelerator and brake—both need to work properly for smooth driving. Natural light helps keep these systems in perfect balance, which directly affects your heart rate and rhythm.
"UV light in the eye vasodilates the RPE via nitric oxide release. Lack of UV light constricts it because nitric oxide is absent." – Dr. Jack Kruse
Dr. Kruse further reveals that "The oculomotor nerve (CNIII) is responsible for controlling the pupillary size. It contains several parasympathetic functions related to the eye." He notes that this is why "the astute quantum clinician can use cold water on the face to help people" through activation of the mammalian dive reflex.
As written in the NIH National Library of Medicine Stat Pearls: The dive reflex is believed to aid in conserving mammal oxygen stores by initiating several specific physiologic changes during aquatic immersion. When a human holds their breath and submerges in water, the face and nose become wet, which in turn causes bradycardia, apnea, and increased peripheral vascular resistance; these three main physiologic changes are collectively referred to as the diving reflex. The cause of increased peripheral resistance is thought to redistribute blood to the vital organs while limiting oxygen consumption by nonessential muscle groups.
But what does all this mean? If you're thoroughly confused, my apologies. The rabbit hole can be a dark place until a little light illuminates it.
The Light-Heart Connection You've Never Been Told About
Natural sunlight, especially UV light, is crucial for your heart's healthy rhythm. When sunlight enters your eyes, it triggers a cascade of biochemical reactions that affect everything from your cellular energy production (through molecules like NAD+) to your body's repair systems (through proteins like SIRT1 and pathways like mTOR) to your entire body clock system (the SCN-pineal pathway). All these systems work together to maintain proper autonomic tone—the balance between your "fight or flight" and "rest and digest" responses that directly influence your heart rhythm.
Let me break down some of these terms to gain a little more clarity:
NAD+ is like your body's rechargeable battery. It powers almost everything your cells do, especially your mitochondria (the tiny power plants in your cells). Think of it as the fuel that keeps your cellular engines running smoothly. When you get natural sunlight, particularly UV light, your body makes more of this special fuel.
SIRT1 acts like a repair crew in your body. When activated by NAD+, it helps fix damaged cells and keeps your body working like it should.
mTOR is like your body's construction team—it builds new cell parts. When these two systems are in balance, your body stays healthy. UV light helps maintain this balance.
The SCN-pineal pathway is like your body's internal clock system. It sits within the larger HPA Axis (Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal) you've likely heard me yammer on about before.
The SCN (suprachiasmatic nucleus) is a tiny region in your brain that works like the conductor of an orchestra, keeping all your body's rhythms in sync. It gets its timing cues mainly from your eyes detecting sunlight. The pineal gland is like the timekeeper that releases melatonin (your sleep hormone) when it's dark. Together, they maintain your body's daily rhythm, including your heart's rhythm.

UV light proponent Helios (@helios_brah) shared powerful evidence of this connection. After tracking his sleep apnea for nine months while living in the tropics with abundant sun exposure, he saw dramatic improvements. "I've spent 9 months in the tropics last year with significant improvements in sleep, especially when I got shitloads of sun," he reported. However, "everything got a bit worse when rainy season started" and "now I'm back in Europe and pretty obviously, everything is FULLY going to shit again." He doesn't sugar coat things. You've just got to love his passion though.

In the same self-study, Helios made a direct connection between artificial blue light exposure from his laptop to his struggle with AFib:
"That laptop by itself literally gave me Afib and eye irritation to almost the point of retinal tear." He found relief by switching to an e-ink tablet, noting "I fixed my eye issues and Afib by avoiding [blue light]."

The ACE2 Connection: A Deeper Mechanism
Recent peer-reviewed research from the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2023) reveals another key mechanism behind atrial fibrillation often overlooked by conventional medicine.
At the heart of this mechanism is ACE2 (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2), a protein that sits on the surface of many cells throughout your body, including your heart. ACE2 helps regulate your body's blood pressure and fluid balance by converting a hormone called Angiotensin II into other compounds that help relax your blood vessels.
Think of ACE2 as a traffic controller for your cardiovascular system. When it's working properly, it helps keep blood pressure balanced and your heart rhythm stable. But when something interferes with ACE2—like certain viruses or their proteins—this delicate balance gets disrupted.
Your heart's electrical system contains many ACE2 receptors, making it particularly vulnerable to anything that affects ACE2 function. When ACE2 is blocked or reduced, Angiotensin II can build up to harmful levels. This can make heart cells more excitable and less coordinated in their contractions, potentially triggering irregular rhythms like atrial fibrillation.
The researchers found that the spike protein (whether from COVID-19 infection or vaccination) can bind to and potentially disrupt the normal functioning of ACE2, creating conditions that may lead to heart rhythm disturbances in susceptible individuals.
Your Invitation to Go Deeper Down the Rabbit Hole
In my work at Sleuth Wellness, I believe in functional verification—not just treating symptoms or accepting generic advice. Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioners don't diagnose or treat specific diseases but prefer a much more zoomed-out perspective, always looking upstream for causal factors of dysfunction. My approach to any issue, from the simplest to the most complex, examines the root environmental, mitochondrial, and autonomic factors that conventional medicine often overlooks.

The Inconvenient Truth About Atrial Fibrillation and COVID Vaccines
Steve Kirsch, a tech entrepreneur and medical freedom advocate, has been at the forefront of analyzing the connection between COVID vaccines and AFib. His analysis of VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) data revealed a shocking pattern:
"100% of the atrial fibrillation cases reported after a vaccine in the 30+ years history of VAERS were reported after the COVID vaccine. 100%!!!!!... 100% of the aortic aneurysm cases ever reported to VAERS occurred after COVID vaccination."
Kirsch notes that "The CDC says the COVID vaccines don't cause Afib!!!!" despite this data being readily available. "I'd love to ask them how they explain the VAERS data, but they never get back to me," he adds.
The above referenced peer-reviewed study in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences confirms Kirsch's concerns, stating: "Arrhythmia was more frequent after the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (19,064.3 cases per million doses) than after the first dose (3450.9 cases per million doses) or second dose (2262.5 cases per million doses)."
Harry Fisher, an EMT with firsthand experience, corroborates these findings:

In another response, this time to a woman whose father and friends are now also suffering with AFib, Fisher noted:

The health conscious community on X has been vocal about personal experiences. One user, ArleneMarie (@ArleneSusanH), shared: "I had 3 jabs. Regrets: afib/aflutter after 2 months... No history of heart/diabetes in my gene pool." Another user, Joshua (@keolathelife), reported: "My sister who is 45 now has to deal with afib because of it. My nephew who is 16 just went into afib this week and he is young and healthy... my wife's dad now has afib."
Simply Carnivore? Simply Keto? Depends on YOU.
While nutrition plays a critical role in heart health, the popular carnivore and keto diets—though beneficial for so many with AFib—may not address the environmental factors contributing to the condition. These diets don't account for:
- Your unique light environment and UV exposure
- Your exposure to non-native EMF from devices
- HPA Axis function: Your individual autonomic nervous system balance
- Your specific genetic dietary predispositions
- The state of your mitochondrial function
As some X users have discovered, even with excellent nutrition, environmental factors can trigger AFib. Daniel Wildt (@DanielWild30411), reported success with "high dose vitamin C 20-30 grams per day in divided doses on the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol to reverse my heart disease which I was able to successfully reverse 30% in 20 months."
In response, User C Saltz (@csaltz7777) shared a simple intervention that worked for him: "Try increasing your potassium also. We need 4700 mg per day! That's a lot, but it allowed me to get off Metoprolol and stopped my afib/tachycardia!"
This explains why some people can follow these diets religiously yet still struggle with heart issues. Everyone is different as evidenced by the study of Epigenetics and the reality of bio-individuality. The problem isn't always the diet—it's an incomplete approach to healing that fails to take the terrain of the individual into account.
